"Bro Culture" and Crunching:
In the News
Below are some examples of the current most popular cases of toxic work environments caused by a deep-rooted "Bro Culture," as well as crunching practices that have been affecting video game development.
Blizzard/Activision
On July 20th, 2021, the state of California's Department of Fair Employment and Housing (DFEH) filed a workplace discrimination and harassment lawsuit against Activision Blizzard, citing that "frat bro" culture (also known as Bro Culture) was deeply established in the company's workplace environment.

The lawsuit made mentions of deep gender discrimination within the company, some of which included unequal pay, lack of promotion opportunities, etc. The lawsuit also pointed out that because of the established "frat bro" culture that's been taking place, sexual harassment was also a common site within the company, with one woman even taking her life during a business trip.
